Sermon: Sisters and Brothers on the Journey Together
Link to Rev. Jim's Sermon: Sisters and Brothers On the Journey Together
What a wonderful time we had together in worship and at the T-dance last Sunday.. I hope everyone is recognizing the level of activity we’ve reached in our church and that you’re finding many ways to plug in with us. We are so much more than a Sunday only church; offering ministry to the entire community and sharing many diverse times of fellowship together. That’s part of building community the Jesus way and I’m so glad that is what we’re up to together.
Gainesville’s Pride celebration is right around the corner.. We’ll have a special Pride Service on Sunday morning, we’ll have a group in the Pride Parade, we have a booth at the festival, and our wonderful choir will be singing during the festival. What we’re missing is you. It will take a lot of people to make all of this happen. We need many people to join us in the parade; we need people at the booth all through the event. So, please call the church office and let me know what you would like to do. Do one activity, do all of them, or select the ones that appeal to you. We want to show the community that Trinity MCC is alive and well and that we know how to have a good time together.
It’s hymnal amnesty time. I know how tempting it can be to take a hymnal home to play through or just to look through and to be honest with you, with the increase in attendance (for which we are very thankful), we are running short of hymnals. So, if you have one of the church’s hymnals at home (The New Century Hymnal), how it the time to bring it back. We won’t ask any questions, we’ll just say THANK YOU.
Finally for this week, I want to remind all of us for our fundraising holiday coming in October. We will make one exception around what we are doing for Pride, and other than that there will be no fundraising that month. As Pastor I am calling us to a month of honestly and intentionally trying on the spiritual practice of bringing tithes and offerings to church. I expect us to get ahead and not to fall behind at all as we practice funding our ministry together according to Biblical principles. I know it is a very difficult thing to do at times, and I know we will be blessed as we follow God’s instruction to “bring the tithe into the storehouse.” Thank you for taking this journey with us.
I look forward to seeing you through the week and on Sunday. May God bless you and yours throughout the week.
Rev. Jim Merritt
This Sunday Rev. Jim’s sermon title is “Sisters and Brothers on the Journey” OR “I Wouldn’t Take Nothin’ for My Journey Now.”
