Rev. Jim's sermon title this Sunday: "Members of God's Household"
Link to today's sermon: Members of God's Household
I’m singing in my mind as I write this, “There shall be showers of blessing, this is the promise of love, there shall be seasons refreshing sent from the savior above. There shall be showers of blessing oh that today they might fall, now as to God we’re confessing, now as on Jesus we call.”* I love that and so many of the old hymns. And this one so accurately describes what I think we’re experiencing here at Trinity; showers of blessing. These are showers of spiritual blessing. They are showers of people being blessed by a moment of welcome or by a moment of welcome back. These are showers that assure us of the fact that the Spirit is alive and well in our midst and that we really are on a mission from God. How exciting! I hope you can get that with me; that we are on an exciting mission, the mission of God. Wow, what a journey!
Thank you so much for last weekend’s “Welcome Rev. Jim” Bar-b-que. Al and I had such a good time with all of you. And a hearty word of thanks to our Fun-raising Team and all of those who participated in the Auction that was held in conjunction with the bar-b-que.
I’m still posting times for you to come in and visit with me. The list will be in the Narthex each Sunday. If you need a time that is not on the list, or to meet me someplace other than church, or if you’d like to share a meal (or of course, a Starbucks), please see me to schedule those. Otherwise, just choose one of the posted times and sign with your name and phone number. We’ll meet in the office at church.
Here’s a policy from the Worship Planning Team that we will be implementing on Sunday, August 2, 2009. In an attempt to streamline all the ancillary things we do around worship, only those announcements that arrive in Rev. Jim’s email (Revjim@thecommunityactivist.
com) by noon the previous Friday will be included in those we mention at the beginning of our time together on Sunday. We want to include your announcement and to promote all of those events important to the life of our church, so please start practicing this now. We will no longer take announcements from the floor as of that date. Let me also note that we know there may be some “emergency” announcements and we will do our best to accommodate those. While we are doing that, we will ask you to work with us by only asking for those to be made in emergency situations. Finally, if you do not have access to email, please call the church office by Friday at noon and leave your announcement on the church voice mail system. Thank you for working with us. We really appreciate you and all that you are doing.
As my good friend Rt. Rev. Grant Lynn Ford says, “The journey is better…together.” I’m glad to be on the journey with each one and all of you.
