Rev. Jim's sermon title this Sunday: "I Sing Because I’m Happy"

Dear Members and Friends:
I am so pleased with the way we are living into God’s calling for Trinity MCC to be a an inclusive and welcoming place for all who come to experience the message of love that comes from the Gospel of Liberation. Even today people told me, “I feel more welcome,” “I feel like the clique has opened up,” “We feel included,” and “We’re having a good time.” Congratulations.
And we’ve been looking for all kinds of ways to save the church money. For example, we’re signing a new phone contract that will save us about $35.00 per month without decreasing our service. We’re getting ready to purchase a copier for about $600 total that will replace the one we currently lease for almost $150 per month. Volunteers extended the drain field on our septic system and saved us a lot of money. Volunteers painted and carpeted my office with materials that were 100% donated. Flowers are donated each week, and the list just goes on and on.
At the same time, I must now let you know that we are not meeting our modified budget. I’m not one to harp on money and I really don’t want to begin talking about it all the time. So, for this week, I am very simply upholding my responsibility to let you know that we have a need for our members and friends to embrace the spiritual practice of tithing and giving offerings. When it is my turn to ask for the offering on Sunday, you will hear me say this phrase that I’ve said for years, “All we ask is that you give in a way that represents the way God is blessing you.” That’s what I’m asking for today. I’m asking for you to bring your tithe and a little extra to help us catch up and stay on top of our financial needs. I’m asking you to pray with us that funding will be abundant and that God will bless us in that arena as well as all the others. You know already, electricity costs money, water costs money, air conditioning costs money, bulletins cost money, music costs money, and reaching out with the message of the Gospel costs money. So, I promise to join with you in giving the best tithe and/or offering I can. And your board and I promise to use the funds you bring very carefully to keep all of our ministries well-funded and actively reaching out into the community.
I love you and I bless you and I’m glad we’re all in this together.
